Maldives National Defense Force has revealed that five locals died in a sea incident which took place on Thursday.

The incident occurred when a speedboat travelling from Nolhivaranfaru in Haa Dhaal atoll overturned en route Hanimaadhoo in the same atoll.

A team of divers from the MNDF had found the 10 individuals travelling on the speedboat at the time of the incident and that they were rushed to the Hanimaadhoo Health Center immediately, where they are being treated.

Killed in the incident were three women, one child and one man while three are reportedly in serious condition with the condition of two others, reported stable.

Hanimaadhoo Health Center did not reveal further details of the deceased, however, RaajjeTV understands that deceased are five members of the same family, cited by Hanimaadhoo council.

MNDF had dispatched its Northern Area Coast Guard after receiving the report of the incident at around 12:25 pm on Thursday.
