Deadline to send in nominations for this year’s National Awards will expire on Wednesday, 2pm.
The National Awards Committee opened the opportunity to apply or send in nominations earlier this month.
This year, the annual National Awards conferred to Maldivians who have made exemplary contributions in various fields will be awarded on National Day.
Noting that these individuals are being recognized for their “positive impact on the country,” President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided that “it is befitting that they should be presented accolades on the country’s National Day.”
While National Day falls on the 1st of Rabee ul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, this year it will fall in October.
Government offices, independent institutions, companies, associations, and individuals can propose nominees for the awards through appropriate government agencies, and by submitting the designated nomination forms.
While last year’s National Awards ceremony was held in November, 22 received the National Award while four received the National Award of Honour.
The National Award for Special Achievement will continue to be conferred at the official function to mark the Republic Day, on November 11.
