Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has been called on by several ambassadors on Thursday.

During respective meetings, FM Shahid held productive discussions with Ambassadors-designate to Sudan, Serbia, Laos, and Switzerland.

At the meeting with newly-appointed Sudanese Ambassador Ahmed Yousif Mohamed Elsiddig, both FM Shahid and the Ambassador discussed the existing relations between both countries and how expand the bilateral ties.

In this regard, FM Shahid expressed hope that the ties between both countries will continue to flourish under Ambassador Elsiddig’s tenure. He discussed areas of potential cooperation and assured FM Shahid of his commitment to work closely with the Maldives government for the betterment of two nations.

Further, FM Shahid also met the newly-appointed Ambassador of Laos, Bounneme Chouanghom where he expressed his confidence that Ambassador Chouanghom will do his best to strengthen the relations between Maldives and Laos.

Also on Thursday, the Ambassador-designate of Serbia to Maldives, Vladimir Maric called on FM Shahid, during which FM Shahid expressed his keenness to work with him to reinforce the relations with Serbia, as Maldives “turns a new page in relations with Europe.”

During the courtesy call by Ambassador of Switzerland to the Maldives, Hanspeter Mock, the pair discussed issue of mutual interest including visa facilitation for Maldivians travelling to Switzerland.

The meetings were joined by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Shiaan.
