An opposition joint-party delegation traveled to Germany this week
Opposition delegation briefs European Commission Representatives in Berlin
An opposition joint-party delegation, which includes former President Mohamed Nasheed, is currently in Berlin, Germany, where they have been meeting with senior officials of the German government.
While the delegation traveled to Germany earlier in the week, the former President met with them and briefed the team on Wednesday.
The delegation’s first meeting was on Wednesday, with representatives from the German-South Asian Parliamentary Group and the Foreign Department at Bundestag. They later met with Konrad-Adenauer Foundation, German Institute for International and Security.
The next day, the group met with Andreas Whitte, Honorary Consul Designate, while on June 2, they met with representatives of the European Commission in Berlin.
In addition, they met with Peter Altmaier, Chief of Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Tasks, with delegation member MP Abdulla Shahid revealing that he had expressed the German government’s “solid support for democracy in Maldives“.
In addition to former President Nasheed and Shahid, the opposition delegation in Berlin includes; Omar Abdul Razzaq, also from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Aminath Nadhira from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Ameen Ibrahim and Asim Ahmed from Jumhooree Party (JP) and Adam Azim, the brother of former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim.
