President Yameen met with several world leaders in Riyadh
The President’s Office announced on Wednesday that he had met each leader separately and discussed ways in which Maldives can strengthen bilateral ties with them
President Yameen had met with leaders of countries in South and Central Asia, as well as Africa and the Middle East
The President’s Office said that President Yameen was invited by King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz and that he would make his address at the summit on Sunday, which he had not

President Abdulla Yameen had met with several heads-of-state during his visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to attend the Arab Islamic American Summit. 

The President’s Office announced on Wednesday that he had met each leader separately and discussed ways in which Maldives can strengthen bilateral ties with them.

The President’s Office provided a list of sovereigns that Yameen had met with, which includes countries in South and Central Asia, as well as Africa and the Middle East: 

  • Prime Minister Saad Hariri of the Lebanese Republic
  • Vice President Khodair al-Khozaei of the Republic of Iraq
  • Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of State of Kuwait
  • Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of State of Qatar
  • Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Islamic Republic of Pakistan
  • Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of People's Republic of Bangladesh
  • Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia
  • First Deputy Premier Mohammed Ghali Abul-Gaiiv of the Kyrgyz Republic
  • President Ashraf Ghani of Islamic State of Afghanistan
  • President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Arab Republic of Egypt

The summit was a congregation between leaders of Arab and Muslim countries along with the United States of America, that aims to fight terrorism and radical ideology.

While it was attended by 55 heads of state, President Yameen had also met with the leaders of the summit, King Salman of Saudi Arabia, and the United States’ President Donal Trump.

The Maldivian delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Asim, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Mohamed Shainee, and Minister of State at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer.  

The President’s Office said that President Yameen was invited by King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz and that he would make his address at the summit on Sunday. However, the summit ended and President Yameen had returned ro rhw Maldives on Wednesday without speaking at the summit.
