Maldives will host the 2020 Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship.

Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof announced this via Twitter on Friday, thanking the senior officials of the Bodybuilding Association of the Maldives (BBAM) for their work “in winning the bid” to host the tournament.

The minister said that they plan to hold the event with around 400 athletes “out of Malé City.”

Mahloof revealed the government’s interest in hosting the event back in May, at the inauguration ceremony of the national bodybuilding judging course.

While the President of the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, Paul Chua had attended this ceremony, the sports minister said that they had already held discussions on the matter.

He further revealed that Maldives had Paul’s “full support” in the matter.

Formed in 1959, the ABBF was the first Continental Federation and has since grown from 6 to 40 National Affiliates.
