Opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has elected Eydhafushi constituency MP Ahmed “Redwave” Saleem as its parliamentary group leader.
The former ruling party’s deputy leader and Naifaru constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam, announced this via twitter on Tuesday.
According to Shiyam, the parliamentary group had unanimously voted in MP Saleem’s favour.
The deputy leader told RaajjeMV that Saleem was the only member to have expressed interest in the post.
The party is yet to elect a deputy parliamentary group leader.
PPM has five members in parliament, significantly low compared to its 33 in 2014. They are; MPs Saleem and Shiyam, as well as Guraidhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Riza, Mahibadhoo constituency MP Ahmed Thoriq and Guraidhoo constituency MP Ghassaan Maumoon.
The party has formed a coalition with the People’s National Congress (PNC), which has three representatives in parliament.
