Newly elected council members to take oath in June
LGA has requested for judges to preside over the oaths
There are 664 seats in total
The Elections Commission has begun announcing interim results

The Local Government Authority (LGA) has stated that individuals that had won seats for City, Atoll and Island Councils in the elections held on Saturday will take their oaths for office in June.

LGA, the statutory body that presides over regulation of local councils, told RaajjeMV that they would take their oaths on 3rd June.

Those that have been elected to office will take their oaths in the presence of a judge, as such the LGA said that it has now requested the Judicial Services Commission to arrange judges for this purpose.

This will ensure that constituencies that do not have a magistrate court in its jurisdiction also have a judge to swear-in those elected to its councils.

The Elections Commission has begun announcing the interim results for Saturday’s vote, which shows the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party to be leading in the polls.

There are 664 council seats in total.
