Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaal, has experienced heavy flooding that caused damages to various households, due to constant heavy showers.

The island council President Abdul Latheef Hassan revealed that the island has been experiencing consistent rain showers that caused flooding up to three feet.

While the water entered many households, some of their property has been left damaged.

With the water level rise, the island’s water and sewerage system has also been halted.

Thus far, due to flooding, four households have been heavily flooded and two of the families have been moved to guest houses temporarily and the other two families have been moved to two other households.

The council is working to inspect other damages caused by the squally weather, Hassan further revealed.

Further, Hassan stressed on the council’s concern of possible high-impact damages that may surface for the island residents if the weather continues to worsen.

While the Maldives Meteorological Service has predicted heavy thundershowers to prevail over most of the country, the department on Wednesday morning issued a yellow alert from Haa Alif to Lhaviyani Atoll from 6am to 09:30am.

While many islands in the archipelago nation are prone to deep flooding even with the slightest bit of rain, the government is yet to provide a permanent solution for the concerning issue.
