97 individuals were penalized for driving during the prohibited time on Eid.
While driving was not allowed from 4-6pm on Tuesday, both in capital Malé City and its suburban Hulhumalé, police said that they had checked a total of 461 vehicles during the period.
Police said that 364 of them were let go with a warning while 97 were penalized.
As such, its traffic operations officers had inspected a total of 81 vehicle, and had penalized 49 individuals. The rest were let go with warning.
Police’s Galolhu and Maafannu wards had checked 366 and six vehicles respectively, with all seven individuals stopped by the Maafannu ward being penalized. 366 out of the 332 were let go with warning while 34 were penalized.
Officers from its Environment Police Force had also stopped seven individuals during the two-hour period, who were all penalized.
While vehicles without the valid approval from the Transport Authority were prohibited on Tuesday evening, it was announced that individuals found violating the policy will be fined by MVR 750.
