While Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed a case of a 15-year-old giving birth in an island, RaajjeMV has learnt that there has been an arrest in the case.

Police is yet to confirm or comment on the matter.

However, RaajjeMV understands that arrested is her "boyfriend."

According to sources, the girl had given birth in the toilet at home. While the baby is to have passed away, sources say that it is not clear whether it was a stillborn or not.

They were forced to take the girl to the island health center, after she suffered a hemorrhage from the umbilical cord, said a RaajjeMV source from the island, who added that she required a blood transfusion.

The source said that the girl is in the ninth grade, and that she had attended classes “until recently.”

Noting that the island’s residents were not aware of the situation, the source believes that the girl’s family were in the know.

While police confirmed that such a case was filed on Monday morning, it asked to refrain from sharing any personal information as the girl is a minor.
