Council working to control food prices during Ramadan

Food prices go up during Ramadan every year

Male' City Council has announced plans to open up markets across the city, as part of their work to control food prices during Ramadan.

While food prices go up during Ramadan every year, deputy mayor Shamau Shareef told RaajjeMV that they expect to open the stalls on Monday, and that priority will be given to local businesses when giving out stalls.

Noting that one of the biggest priorities of the council is to ensure that food prices remain at an affordable level, he said that opening markets across the city will give space for more businesses.

The council is to open a temporary market near Rasfannu Beach, as well as one in Villimalé on Monday.

Shamau added that they expect to open up one near the north harbor “within two to three days.”
