The Kaadedhdhoo Airport has rehired six employees who claim they were let go unfairly during the tenure of former president Abdulla Yameen.
The employees were let go in June 2018 on the grounds that the company operating the airport, the state-run Regional Airports, was bringing about ‘essential’ changes to the company structure.
The six employees, four of them native to Thinadhoo island of Gaafu Dhaal atoll and two of them native to Madaveli of the same atoll, are filled senior positions in the company.
While employment termination notices issued to them reportedly say that their positions in the company have been disestablished, a number of other employees working the same positions continued on, the six individuals recount.
They also claim that their notices did not carry a stamp from the Regional Airports, although it was said to have been signed by Saamee Ageel, the company’s managing director. The notices of their rehiring had also been signed by Ageel.
The six employees have been rehired starting May 1st; the domestic airport has been operation since 1993.
The Yameen administration faced several allegations of abuse of power, and employees at state-run companies have reported being coerced into attending political rallies and supporting party activities.
