Parliament approves 30 more audit reports, out of 101
It approved 31 audits at Monday’s sitting

PParliament has on Tuesday passed 30 more of the 101 audit reports reviewed by the Public Finance Committee.

It approved 31 audits at Monday’s sitting.

Some of the reports, dated from 2007 to 2012, are from government institutions such as Police Integrity Commission, Elections Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as local councils.

While Speaker Qasim Ibrahim had first opened the floor for debate, none of the MPs took the opportunity.

However, some expressed concern over the timeline of the reports.

Responding to this, Public Finance Committee Chair and Komandhoo constituency MP Ahmed Nashid agreed that the reports are from years back, but emphasized that all have been thoroughly reviewed and are without any issues.

While Nashid was appointed as the committee chair in December 2018, Nashid said that he has been working to complete all pending work at the committee since.

Parliament’s first session of the year will conclude on April 30, and the 18th parliament will dissolve on May 28 when the newly elected MPs take oath of office.
