Foreign Ministry records for 2014 do not tally: audit report
MVR 4.10 million were recorded as security deposits and advances

Auditor General Hassan Ziyath has stated that security deposits for Maldivian Missions abroad does not tally with the records. The security deposits must be paid back to the Ministry.
The 2014 audit report for the Ministry said that a total of MVR 4.10 million was recorded as security deposits and advances which have to be paid back to the Ministry. The report said that this figure was made based on data from 12 out of the 15 Missions.
The report said the details of the three Missions had not been released to the Ministry. Therefore, the report said the amount recorded as security deposits and advances at the end of the year was not a verifiable figure.
The state’s financial laws dictate that a contract is required prior to any work carried out. As such, the report noted that contracts worth MVR 964,468 were awarded without such agreement; each and all projects were valued below MVR 25,000.
Foreign Ministry audit report states the assets for the Permanent Mission of the Maldives for the UN, Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia and Maldivian Embassy in China were not maintained according to the laws of the financial act. As such, the report notes that MVR 20.20 million listed as assets cannot be listed as accurate. The assets were not documented, given serial numbers and maintained.
