State-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has admitted to Villimalé Hospital giving expired doses of vaccine to children, saying that the matter has been handled.
On Monday, citing a parent, Channel News Maldives (CNM) reported that the Villimalé Hospital had given expired doses of vaccine to children; the hospital is managed by IGMH.
CNM said that this occurred in November 2018, and that afterwards “the hospital had asked the parents to come in to inform them of the matter.”
CNM’s report also cited an official from IGMH, who is to have told them that the incident occurred in September and that “necessary measures have been taken.”
However, IGMH in a statement on Monday said that the expired vaccines were administered in November.
It added that both Ministry of Health and Health Protection Agency (HPA) have investigated the matter and “spoken to those involved and taken the necessary precautions.”
While the hospital further criticized CNM “for bringing information that could lose the public’s trust in the health institutions,” it did not state whether any measures were taken against those negligent in the matter.
Back in 2014, a lab technician at IGMH had “accidently” transferred HIV infected blood to a pregnant patient.
