An employee at the State Electric Company (STELCO) has been sidelined from their duties following a RaajjeTV exposé revealing that the company’s Human Resources department has been calling staff and pressuring them to join the main ruling party, the People’s National Congress (PNC).
The issue came to light during RaajjeTV's "Fashaairu" program on Thursday morning. During the broadcast, a member of the RaajjeTV team posed as an ordinary employee of STELCO and contacted the company's Human Resources department. When the caller inquired about which number to send a screenshot to as proof of joining the People's National Congress (PNC), the HR department instructed the "employee" to upload the screenshot via the link previously sent to them.
STELCO’S HR department further stated that once employees join the party, they must take a screenshot of the confirmation from the Elections Commission’s website and upload it to a link provided by the company. This development adds significant weight to allegations that state-owned enterprises are exerting undue influence on employees to inflate the membership registry of the ruling party.
In a statement released regarding the matter, STELCO announced that the employee accused in the allegations aired on RaajjeTV has been suspended from their duties pending an investigation into the incident. The company further stated that it would take all necessary disciplinary and administrative actions in accordance with corporate regulations without hesitation, effectively placing the full responsibility for the matter on the company’s Human Resources department.
STELCO further emphasized its role as a national institution entrusted with the responsibility of providing essential services directly linked to the daily lives of the citizens. The statement also highlighted that the entire team’s objective is to provide reliable services 24 hours a day without interruption, affirming that the company’s time and resources will remain dedicated to fulfilling this national duty.
