Maldives Immigration is investigating 67 cases of neglecting expatriate workers.
In a press release, Immigration stated that it is investigating agencies that have brought in expatriates unlawfully and neglected their responsibilities afterwards.
Immigration stated that some agencies have been found to have brought in expatriates outside of their quotas and submitted fraudulent documents.
Immigration stated that is evaluating these cases and working with state investigative authorities to obtain evidence and forward the cases for prosecution.
Cases of neglect and abuse of expatriates are a commonplace and ignored issue in Maldives, and neglected expatriates are known to leave their agencies and work for other firms illegally.
