Monday’s sitting ended without calling for a vote to pass the bill on granting more authority to presidential commissions.
43 members are required to be in attendance to vote for a bill that affects the public, but Monday’s sitting did not have the required number of parliamentarians.
Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed proposed the bill on behalf of the government to give more authority to the commission on murders and disappearances and the commission on corruption and asset recovery to investigate their cases more efficiently.
Members of opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) have been obstructing the progress of the bill.
