Faris Maumoon calls to rise up to save the nation
“Country will not forgive our generation”
MP Faris Maumoon
Dhiggaru Constituency MP and son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has stated that the status of the nation was at a dangerous level and called on all to rise up to save the nation.
He made the statement in a tweet posted. In the tweet, MP Faris said that if we don’t stand up now, if we fail trying, the country will never forgive this generation.
MP Faris, nephew to President Yameen, is a MP from ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives. He also a member of the Party’s Parliamentary Group. However, the MP had been kicked out of the official viber groups of the Party, excluded from PG meetings and President Yameen’s faction had even attempted to remove him from the party.
MP Faris among the many calling for the release of former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, following the decision passed by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. Faris said that UNWGAD ruling had clearly shown that Nazim’s arrest and sentence was devoid of justice and as such, Nazim must be released.
