Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun a survey in Haa Alif Hoarafushi as part of the airport development project.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, MTCC’s assistant general manager Ahmed Latheef said that the company has been tasked with reclaiming the land for the Hoarafushi airport.
Latheef said that their survey team arrived in on Sunday to assess the area reserved for the development project.
He also said that they are in discussions to contract MTCC with developing the Hoarafushi airport.

Although former president Abdulla Yameen had pledged to develop the airport in Hoarafushi during his administration, the project was at a standstill during his five years as president.
The new government has undertaken the project and reserved MVR 90 million in this year’s budget to finance the project, and plans to reserve MVR 80.4 million next year, and MVR 9 million in 2021.
The airport is to be built in the uninhabited part of Hoarafushi and is to be connected to the island by a causeway.
