Door to door began from MDP Haruge

Activities held for all of Male’

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has begun their door to door activities as part of the Local Council Elections campaign.

The activities began Wednesday evening from MDP Haruge. Campaigners had visited individual homes, talked with residents of Male’ constituencies and discussed issues and potential solutions to those problems.

Speaking in Haruge, MDP’s newly elected Chair Hassan Latheef said that MDP will reveal their electoral pledges after understanding the core issues that face the public. He said this was the start of a much bigger initiative by the Party for the Council Elections.

“We’re talking about one housing scheme, a core issue facing Male’ citizens. Male’ is congested. We cannot show one thing that’s right with Male’,” he said.

Former Parliament Speaker and Henveyru North Constituency MP Abdullah Shahid said the purpose of the activity was to find out the concerns of the public and find solutions to those issues. He said this was an easy endeavor to the Party and that MDP had always listened to the core issues facing the public.

“We’re appealing to President Abdullah Yameen to allow for a peaceful dialogue. Allow us to have political rallies. Give a voice to the public. His response was to the contrary. That’s not what we’re appealing for. We want to hear the aspirations of the public,” he said.

Male’ City Council Mayor and former Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Shihab said that Male’ had always been a stronghold for MDP, as evident from previous elections. He said the Constituents of Male’ still rallied behind MDP.

Henveyru Central Constituency MP Ali Azim also echoed similar sentiments, noting that the last MDP internal elections was evidence of this.

Each door to door team included a member of MDP National Congress. Speaking to Raajjetv, some candidates contesting for Male’ seats said they did believe that a solution can be found for issues. they noted that it was vital that voters thronged to polling stations and participate in the democratic process.

Some of the residents had raised their concerns to Raajjetv, with housing noted as a key issue. The residents note that they did not believe the Government was capable of finding a solution to the issue.

MDP says the activity will be carried out in Male’ and other areas.
