Hearings on Fiyaz trial begins

Hearings of the assault charges on RaajjeTV Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa was held today after a hiatus of seven months.

State had filed assault charges on Fiyaz, for allegedly attacking a Police officer while Police were attempting to defuse a bomb, discovered near Muleeaage. Fiyaz had denied the charges.

Today’s hearings were focused on taking statements from witnesses. Fiyaz had submitted statements from seven journalists and footage of RaajjeTV live coverage as his defense. RaajjeTV Sports journalist Leevaan Ali Nasir, RaajjeTV journalist Ahmed Azmoon, RaajjeTV journalist Mohamed Wisam, RaajjeTV journalist Murshid Abdul Hakeem, Mihaaru News photographer Mohamed Sharuhaan, Sun online journalist Ahmed Sharuwaan and PSM photographer Ali Naseer were listed as witnesses.

The Court today heard witness statements from the prosecution. Statements from defense witnesses will be heard on February 2nd. While Fiyaz had listed seven witnesses, the Court will hear statements from three witnesses only.

Additional journalists from RaajjeTV are currently on trial as well.
