Several membership forms submitted by the People’s National Congress (PNC) for party registration bear discrepant contact numbers, the Elections Commission (EC) has said.
Commission president Ahmed Shareef told RaajjeMV that a number of forms have contact numbers used by foreigners living in the Maldives.
EC said on Sunday that they are investigating the PNC, despite having authorized the party to hold its inaugural assembly.
EC authorized the party the do so after the People’s Majlis speaker said he would ensure that the PNC is registered.
In January, PNC submitted 4,000 membership forms to have the party registered, although the EC says only 1,945 of these forms are valid.
