The Attorney General (AG) has formed a committee to review state loans and contracts, to see if there is room to re-negotiate.
In a press statement, the AG’s office stated that the committee will check whether all legal procedures were fulfilled in the agreements and will re-negotiate any deal that is not in the Maldives’ best interest.
The committee will review agreements related to sovereign guarantees, housing and infrastructure development, public services, and investments to the tourism industry.
The AG’s office stated that a committee has also been formed to review laws that seek to harm or benefit a particular person or party, since it is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The AG’s office also stated that they are discussing with the relevant state institutions to propose bills to introduce new laws and amend existing laws to fulfill the President’s pledges within the deadline.
