United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s country director to the Maldives, Ritsu Nacken met with Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday morning.
In a tweet sent out after the meeting, the ministry said that both parties held discussions on UNFPA’s ongoing programmes in the country.

Nacken said, also via twitter, that Minister Shahid’s “commitment to international cooperation and partnerships is inspiring.”
While she describes herself as “passionate about gender equality,” the UNFPA representative commended the minister for recognizing the its importance and added that she looks forward to working closely with him and team.

While her first official job at the United Nations was as the UN coordination specialist in the Pacific Region in 2002, Ritsu Nacken’s first UNFPA post was as deputy representative to Vietnam. After a three-year tenure, she was appointed to Sri Lanka and Maldives in February 2017.
