Two cabinet ministers refuse to cooperate with President-elect Solih
Chair of Transition, Abdulla Shahid says the hiccup is 'due to lack of practice'

RaajjjeMV has learnt that two cabinet ministers of the current administration are refusing to cooperate with newly elected President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during the transition period.
Solih has appointed former Parliament Speaker and current Henveiru-North constituency MP Abdulla Shahid as the Chairman of Transition, while the Civil Service Commission has appointed Ahmed Latheef as its Director General, as per law.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, MP Shahid revealed that they have met with nine out of the 15 government ministries.
While reports of some ministers refusing to cooperate with the president-elect have been circulating on social media, Shahid confirmed that they had faced such issues with two ministers.
He added that he believes the reason for the ‘hiccup’ is ‘because [the country] is new to the transition process’, adding that politicians ‘must step aside when the people say no to them’.
While the Director General of Transition of Presidency is a position created under the Law of Transition of Presidency established in 2010, this is the first time and individual has been appointed to the post.
“So, the reason for such issues is the lack of practice. We do not pay much heed to such things. We are focused on improving the services to the people”, he added.
While Shahid did not disclose the names of the two ministers, RaajjeMV understands that the two are fisheries minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee and housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
While the president-elect continues to pay courtesy calls on the various ministries, RaajjeMV understands that these two ministers had shown that they will not be cooperating with him, during their respective meetings.
