Have full confidence Solih will heed the advice of religious scholars: Ali Zahir

Adhaalath Party's deputy leader Ali Zahir has said that he has full confidence that opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will listen to the advice of religious scholars.

He said this while speaking at an opposition rally in Thulaadhoo island of Baa atoll; the opposition is currently on a tour of the atoll as part of their campaign for September's polls.

Noting that religious scholars have failed to speak freely on what is right, Zahir assured that they 'will be freed' of the fear to do so.

Noting that members of the ruling party had first threatened to not accept the candidacy of an opposition candidate, he highlighted that their candidate has been greenlit by the Elections Commission.

While Zahir's religious conservative Adhaalath Party has been part of the opposition for the past three years, he said that his experience with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) shows that they, especially their presidential candidate 'will listen to the advice of religious scholars'.

"Solih has proved this", he added.

Noting that Adhaalath Party will never be a part of something that goes against Islam, Zahir further added that he has full confidence that the opposition parties will not do such a thing.
