Elections Commission (EC) should seek the trust of the citizens before holding the elections, says the opposition running mate, Faisal Naseem.
At the start of the door-to-door activities on Saturday, the opposition coalition’s running mate said that the citizens do not want to see the EC’s five members favoring one side.
Faisal Naseem said that the EC has also undermined the voting rights of people with special needs.
Noting that the opposition coalition is working on re-registering voters for September’s election, he said that many atoll residents are living in Male’ and Hulhumale’ and so they will help them with re-registration before August 11.
He also said that it was a pleasure to get the opportunity to join other lawmakers in helping citizens re-register.
Parliamentarians began going door-to-door on Saturday to help people in their constituencies re-register before the elections, which they are allowed to do until August 11. Running mate Faisal Naseem also joined in the door-to-door activities.
