Trial of former President's Office employee Eesha set to begin Monday

The Criminal Court has scheduled the trial of Aishath Eesha Ashraf, a former employee of the President's Office, for next Monday.
The Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed that Isha has been charged with defamation under Section 612 of the Penal Code. The office further stated that the case was filed in court on September 27.
The initial preliminary hearing for this case is scheduled for next Monday at 10:00 AM.
Section 612 of the Penal Code defines the offense of Qazf (false accusation). This section stipulates that it is a crime to falsely accuse an individual of committing or engaging in the act of fornication, as defined under Section 411 of the same Code. This offense is classified as a fourth-degree felony. In addition to the penalties authorized under Chapter 90 of the Penal Code, the law mandates a sentence of 80 lashes for this crime.
Police have previously questioned the CEO of Adhadhu, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, along with the publication's editor, Hassan Mohamed (Hasana), regarding this case. Defamation charges have now been formally filed against both individuals.
In a recent social media post, Aisha, a former President's Office employee, revealed that a government minister telephoned her to issue a warning a month before the news outlet Adhadhu released its documentary "Aisha." However, she did not disclose the identity of the minister involved.
