Although Member of Parliament for the Nilandhoo constituency, Fathimath Saudha—the younger sister of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu—claims that a 2.4 million Rufiyaa cash deposit into her account was a loan, her financial disclosure reveals that the arrangement lacks a specified repayment period.
Following the disclosure of Members of Parliament's financial statements, it has been observed that members typically include comprehensive details regarding their loans and liabilities, including repayment schedules and other pertinent information.
Providing detailed information in financial statements, particularly regarding large sums of money, minimizes the room for scrutiny. In line with this, many members have included the repayment periods for any personal loans they have acquired. This requirement is also a standard component of the financial statement disclosure format.
The issue of a 2.4 million Rufiyaa cash deposit into the bank account of Fathimath Saudha, Member of Parliament for the Nilandhoo constituency and sister of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, first came to light in March this year. When the matter surfaced at the time, MP Saudha told the media that the funds were obtained from a businessman as a student loan. However, she did not provide any further details regarding the transaction.
According to MP Saudha's financial disclosure, a loan was obtained on January 1, 2026. The statement reveals that a substantial loan of MVR 2.4 million was taken from a private individual; however, as the column for the maturity date was left blank, the disclosure indicates that the loan has no specified repayment deadline.
However, serious questions have been raised as to whether anyone would provide such a substantial cash loan without a specified repayment period.

The transfer of these funds into MP Saudha's account has raised significant questions, particularly as it occurred on the eve of the then-upcoming Local Council Elections. While the transaction has been characterized as a loan, the timing has sparked intense scrutiny.
Saudha's Financial Statement At the time the statement was submitted, the reported account balances stood at 11,604 Rufiyaa and 118 Dollars. Consequently, the financial disclosure fails to account for the status or whereabouts of the 2.4 million Rufiyaa.
According to the financial statement submitted to the People's Majlis, Saudha received a total of 990,000 Rufiyaa in salary over the course of one year. The disclosure also indicates that she holds a BML Visa Platinum card with a credit limit of 9,861 dollars.
