Colonel Ahmed Fayaz’s passport has been withheld after being recently released from prison after serving his two-year sentence for his involvement in the presidential speedboat blast.
RaajjeMV understands that his passport was withheld regarding the state charges against him in the case in which military weapons were found in B. Hibalhidhoo. Fayyaz was in charge of the military storage area at the time of the incident.
Others charged in the case are Mohamed Ahlaam Latheef, Ahmed Ishfah, and this administration’s second vice president Ahmed Adeeb, who is already serving prison sentences totalling 33 years.
In 2015, the police and military stated that some weapons from the military storage area were among the cache they found in the island, which included hand grenades, devices used to make bombs, and some parts of a sniper rifle.
Fayaz was in charge of the military weapons storage area when the explosion occurred inside the speedboat on 28 September 2015. He had previously been the military commander of the Male’ area and the leader of the Special Protection Group (SPG). He was found guilty of ordering the SPG to obstruct the police investigation of the speedboat blast.
