Alleging that the move is intended to create a secure enclave for Israeli billionaires, Nasheed called upon the public to rise up in defense of Maldivian sovereignty and land.

Former Member of Parliament for the Nolhivaranfaru constituency, Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla (Mosta), has characterized the decision to lease Ras Male'—a project funded by public tax money—to a "Zionist" as an insult to citizens in desperate need of housing.
Speaking at an emergency rally titled "Maldivian Land for Maldivians," Nasheed asserted that Ras Male' is land reclaimed specifically for the residence of Maldivian citizens. He emphasized that the Maldivian people do not wish for this land to be developed as a safe haven for Zionists, stating firmly that the territory does not belong to them.
Nasheed has characterized Mohamed Alabbar, the head of Eagle Hills—a company granted a vast area of land in Ras Male'—as an individual who brings ruin to nations. He asserted that Alabbar was responsible for the destruction of Somaliland and is currently causing similar damage across several European countries, warning that Alabbar does not have the best interests of the Maldives at heart.
The decision to lease land to a Zionist—land that was promised to be reclaimed for us without touching our own funds, yet is currently costing Maldivian taxpayers $1.2 million a day—is a blatant mockery and an insult by Muizzu toward the people of Malé, who are already struggling with a severe housing crisis.Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla (Mosta)
Noting Iran’s pledge to eliminate Israel, Nasheed stated that the true objective of the Ras Male' project is to establish a "safe land" for Israeli billionaires to reside.
Furthermore, Nasheed stated that 70 percent of the Israeli population holds dual citizenship, suggesting that Israelis would visit Ras Male' using their secondary passports. He also accused President Muizzu of misleading the public regarding his claims that pork and alcohol would not be sold in Ras Male'.
At the same time, Nasheed called upon the public to rise up in defense of Maldivian territory.
