A major protest has been scheduled for November 6 to demand a public referendum over growing concerns regarding the permanent allocation of a significant portion of Ras Male' to the Eagle Hills company.
Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla disclosed this information while speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday.
Sheikh Imran stated that organized efforts have now commenced to demonstrate the level of public participation and support for a referendum.
In this regard, he stated that November 6 has been designated as the day they will all unite to hold a major rally.
November 6th is the day designated for a mass gathering where citizens who support a referendum can come together to demonstrate their solidarity. Therefore, we invite all Maldivian citizens to join us on November 6th in this major rally to call for and show their collective support for a referendum.Sheikh Imran Abdulla
Furthermore, Imran stated that this is a vital effort to defend the nation, emphasizing that women, youth, and elders, as well as the security forces, must stand in solidarity with the people in this movement. He also expressed confidence that the referendum would succeed with the full cooperation of citizens from both the atolls and Male'.
Highlighting the methods used by foreign powers to exert influence over nations, Sheikh Imran stated that when foreign entities infiltrate a country, they first attempt to gain control by offering gifts and bribes to political leaders, opposition figures, and influential groups. He noted that such patterns are becoming visible within the Maldives as well. Sheikh Imran further urged individuals to distance themselves from such practices and called on them to stand with the citizens in the best interest of the nation.
