Mohamed Fazeel, the People’s National Congress (PNC) member representing the Dhaandhoo constituency, has stated that the public does not need to be informed of the current activities being carried out by members of parliament.
Fazil made these remarks following a meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at the official residence, Muliaage. The meeting was held on Tuesday at Muliaage, where President Muizzu met with members of the People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group, cabinet ministers, and heads of state-owned enterprises.
According to reports, the meeting was held specifically to discuss the Ras Male' project. When questioned about the agenda of the meeting, Ahmed Riyaz, the Member of Parliament for the Thimarafushi constituency, stated that the discussions encompassed all matters of national importance.
Furthermore, when questioned by MP Fazeel regarding the reasons for not disclosing the Ras Male' project agreement, he stated that it is not necessary for the general public to be informed of current proceedings. Fazeel added that the matter would be submitted to the Parliament's Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee).
The matter will be referred to that committee. However, it is not yet time to share the details. Information will be disclosed to the 241 Committee when the appropriate time comes. At this stage, there is no formal agreement, nor have any commercial terms been finalized.Mohamed Fazeel
Furthermore, MP Fazeel stated that had he been given the opportunity to debate the resolution submitted to Parliament, he would have participated in the discussion. The resolution calls for the Maldivian government to disclose all details of the agreement signed with Eagle Hills regarding the Ras Male' project, in order to ascertain the Parliament's stance on the matter.
However, the resolution was rejected by the PNC-led majority.
