Former Vice President Faisal Naseem and Male' City Mayor Adam Azim have called for full transparency and the disclosure of all details regarding the "Maldives Waterfront and Marina" project, which Eagle Hills plans to develop in Ras Male'.
In a press release regarding the Ras Male' project, Faisal's team stated that the current administration has so far failed to act with transparency, treating the project's details as a hidden agenda rather than disclosing them to the public. The statement further noted that the Maldivian people are deeply concerned by the government's efforts to conceal information, and alleged that the administration is actively working to obstruct the efforts of opposition figures and independent journalists seeking to clarify these matters.
Furthermore, the government’s efforts to facilitate this, with the support of a parliament under its full control, highlight the gravity of the situation. This poses a significant threat to the religious unity and social stability of a hundred percent Muslim nation like the Maldives.
Furthermore, it was noted that there is significant public concern and dissatisfaction regarding the government's handling of this project. The statement warned that proceeding in this manner would likely lead to irreversible financial and social consequences for the Maldivian people. It also highlighted an imminent threat to the religious unity, long-standing independence, and sovereignty of the nation.
In a joint statement, Faisal and Azim expressed their opposition to the project, asserting that proceeding with such a high-risk venture against the will of the people is unacceptable.
