Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas has sharply criticized the government, stating that the country's situation has deteriorated to the point where it is unclear whether the Maldives is being led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu or the Dubai billionaire Mohamed Alabbar.
Speaking at Monday's parliamentary sitting, MP Abbas expressed grave concern over the current trajectory of the nation and directed a series of questions to the Speaker of the Parliament.
Abbas stated that, given the current state of the nation, he wished to ask the President to clarify who currently holds the ultimate authority over the country's affairs.
Furthermore, highlighting the current trajectory of Maldivian media, Abbas stated that both private outlets and the state broadcaster, PSM—which are mandated to serve the public interest—now appear to be solely focused on promoting Alabbar. Abbas further characterized Alabbar as an individual who supports those under the protection and patronage of Zionist interests.
Highlighting the stagnation of island development projects, Abbas stated that there is currently a void in the country of voices willing to advocate for essential infrastructure and the daily hardships faced by citizens. He further noted that media attention has drifted away from the basic needs of the people, becoming increasingly preoccupied with the promotion of specific interests.
In a ceremony held in Abu Dhabi without prior notice to the Maldivian media or the public, the government has handed over half of the land in Ras Male' to Eagle Hills. The agreement was signed between Housing Minister Abdulla Muththalib and Abu Dhabi tycoon Mohamed Alabbar, a figure known for his financial ties to Zionist interests. The land transfer was reportedly carried out under the guise of executing major development projects.
