Former Member of Parliament for the Central Maafannu constituency, Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonda), has stated that the details of agreements involving the lease or sale of state-owned resources and land must be disclosed to the public. He further asserted that any refusal to reveal these agreements is an attempt to conceal corruption.
Regarding the allegations made during the special coverage titled "Dhivehinge bin dhivehinnah"—which claimed that a significant portion of Ras Male' has been leased to Eagle Hills for 99 years—Rasheed stated that the details of all agreements involving the lease or sale of state-owned assets and land must be disclosed transparently to the Maldivian public.
Rasheed stated that agreements signed in the name of the state are directly linked to the rights of the Maldivian people. He emphasized that as the true sovereigns of the nation, citizens must have the right to ensure whether such transactions result in a benefit or a loss to the country.
Furthermore, Rasheed stated that transparency is the most fundamental principle of a democracy, and that keeping agreements concerning public land and assets shrouded in secrecy is unacceptable.
In this regard, Rasheed stated that the state must clarify the details of the revenue received from transactions involving 99-year land leases and the allocation of 500 hectares of land—an area three times the size of Male'.
The people are the true masters of this nation. Yet, the country's rightful owners have not been shown the agreement or any documentation. It appears Muizzu considers himself the sole proprietor, acting as if he has sold off the entire establishment. However, the citizens remain in the dark. It is now the collective responsibility of every living citizen—the true stakeholders of this land—to safeguard the future of the coming generations and their children. Every citizen currently living has a duty to demand answers from Muizzu. Where is this document? Show us the registration or the agreement. If this agreement is not disclosed immediately, it must be viewed as an act of theft. There is clearly a clandestine agenda being hidden from the public.Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonda)
Rasheed stated that even in the event of a contract termination, the extent of the state's liability for compensation must be clearly defined. He further noted that it is questionable to withhold or keep secret information regarding matters that could result in significant losses, especially when considering current market rates.
