Former Finance Minister Dr. Ahmed Inaz has stated that maintaining a firm stance against any economic or trade relations that embolden atrocities is a principle Maldivians must always uphold in support of Palestine.
Dr. Inaz, who served as Finance Minister in the cabinet of former President Mohamed Nasheed during the first MDP administration, made these remarks in a post on X.
Dr. Inaz stated that humanity is the fundamental basis of all economic relations. He further emphasized that in the absence of humanity, there is no purpose in maintaining any such relationship.
Furthermore, Dr. Inaz stated that the ongoing bloodshed on Palestinian soil, along with the immense pain and suffering endured by its brothers and sisters, remains a profound tragedy for the entire Muslim Ummah and all of humanity.
Inaz made these remarks amid growing public concern over the allocation of a large portion of Ras Male' to Eagle Hills. The issue has drawn significant criticism and public backlash, particularly following the circulation of social media clips featuring the company’s chairman, Mohamed Alabbar. These interviews, which suggest ties to Israel, have fueled widespread public outrage against him.
In a recent interview circulating on social media, Alabbar stated that no party has consulted him regarding the reconstruction of Gaza. He further remarked that his personal philosophy is that everyone should be responsible for cleaning up their own mess.
