9 އޮކްޓޯބަރު 2026 | ހުކުރު 07:54MP Meekail has asserted that the government must be held accountable for leasing a significant portion of Ras Male' to a foreign company for an extended period. He emphasized that while private corporations prioritize profit, it is the government's fundamental responsibility to safeguard public interests, noting that current actions appear to directly contradict the administration's initial promises.

The government must be held accountable regarding allegations that a significant portion of Ras Male' has been leased to Eagle Hills for 99 years, stated Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for Galolhu South. He further remarked that this appears to be the first link in a chain of events aimed at transforming the entire nation into something other than the promised "Dhivehinge Bin" (Land of Maldivians).
Speaking during RaajjeTV's special coverage, MP Meekail emphasized that the government must transparently disclose the terms and details of the agreement to the public. MP Meekail further stated that before addressing any foreign company, the Maldivian government must first remain accountable to its own citizens.
MP Meekail stated that the Maldivian people did not elect Eagle Hills, and as the PNC administration is currently in power, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu must remain accountable to the public. He further noted that while private corporations will always prioritize maximizing their own profits, it is the fundamental responsibility of the government to safeguard the interests of the citizens in such matters.
We are electing and mandating the government to enter into negotiations with the firm assurance that they will do nothing to compromise our national interests. However, what we are witnessing now is the exact opposite. Those who came to power under the slogan of "Maldivians' Maldives" have instead begun a series of actions to transform the entire country into something else entirely. What we are seeing now is merely the first link in that chain.Meekail Ahmed Naseem
Furthermore, MP Meekail stated that although the public elected the government based on assurances that they would refrain from any actions detrimental to the national interest, what is being witnessed today is the exact opposite of the promises made.
