The residents of F. Nilandhoo have expressed profound concern and dissatisfaction regarding the island's current state of development and the government's handling of ongoing projects.
All citizens interviewed on RaajjeTV’s "Haalu Kihineh?" program expressed profound dissatisfaction and shared their grievances regarding their current hardships and the government’s conduct. The primary concerns raised by the residents centered on the government's failure to align its actions with the community's needs, as well as the complete stagnation of numerous ongoing development projects.
I am witnessing the gradual decline of long-standing traditions and systems that have defined this island for generations. Everything seems to be stagnating. If I were to list the issues, they are numerous. The cost of living is skyrocketing, while the general standard of living is deteriorating at an alarming rate. If it were within my power, I would lead the people of this island in a movement to bring about a change in the current administration.A Nilandhoo resident expresses concern
Residents of Nilandhoo have expressed deep concern over the lack of certainty regarding the completion of the local airport project, further noting that the ongoing construction has resulted in the destruction of the island's natural beaches. Furthermore, residents highlighted several critical infrastructure issues, including major failures in the sewerage system and the deteriorating condition of local mosques. They also pointed to the persistent congestion of the island’s harbor and the severely dilapidated state of the roads.
Regarding the general standard of living, nearly all citizens have expressed grievances over the skyrocketing prices of goods and the exorbitant increase in the cost of living. Furthermore, some have voiced significant frustration, alleging that the current administration has prioritized the Male' region while leaving provincial capitals in a state of severe neglect.
Many residents believe there is no hope for meaningful development in Nilandhoo under the current administration. Locals point out that instead of witnessing actual progress, they consistently see nothing more than photo opportunities and reactive, temporary measures whenever an issue arises. Public criticism has also been directed at state-owned enterprises like MTCC, with residents slamming the extreme sluggishness of their operations. Some locals remarked that the company's work appears limited to merely leveling small patches of sand on the roads or relocating palm trees, rather than executing substantial infrastructure projects.
There are numerous construction workers on this island, including those from MTCC and other contractors. Their primary task, under the council's direction, is to simply level the roads with a bit of sand whenever the President or a Minister is scheduled to visit. They might relocate a palm tree from one spot to another, and in their view, this constitutes development. This is precisely the kind of "progress" the PNC is promoting here as President Muizzu’s vision for development.A Nilandhoo resident expresses concern

Some residents have voiced their frustration with the current administration, alleging that political appointments are being used to silence dissent while officials prioritize personal gain over public interest. A primary concern shared by all residents is the current social and economic state of Nilandhoo. Many have noted that conditions have deteriorated significantly, leaving the community in a state of profound uncertainty and distress.
