"We exerted more effort to bring Muizzu to power than we ever did for any other president; yet, no leader has lost public support as rapidly as he has"

Mohamed Jaleel, the former Atoll Chief of Faafu Atoll and former President of the Nilandhoo Council, has stated that while he worked tirelessly to bring President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration to power, the government has now completely lost its support.

Jaleel, who has rendered extensive services to both Nilandhoo and the state, made these remarks during an interview on RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program.

Jaleel, who has been a dedicated supporter of the PPM ideology since the inception of the multi-party system, stated that he exerted more effort to bring President Muizzu to power than he ever had for any previous leader. He further noted that the recent presidential election marked the first time he utilized his personal funds for a campaign, emphasizing the unprecedented level of commitment he invested in the President’s victory.

However, Jaleel stated that he no longer supports the current administration, citing his dissatisfaction with the government's policies. He further noted that he had expressed his disapproval of these policies directly to President Muizzu within the first seven days of the administration taking office.

Jaleel stated that the current administration is characterized by expenditures exceeding revenue and an apparent focus on maintaining a lavish lifestyle. Furthermore, Jaleel noted that President Muizzu’s failure to align his actions with his words is another reason why he does not support this government in any capacity.

Furthermore, Jaleel stated that although he had hoped for the parliamentary elections to be conducted fairly and without discrimination, the reality proved otherwise. He noted that the government began efforts to secure the Nilandhoo constituency seat for President Muizzu’s sister well before the primaries were even held. Jaleel expressed deep concern over how the matter was handled, asserting that the actions taken were in violation of the party’s basic regulations.

Furthermore, Jaleel stated that the voter registry had been manipulated ahead of the election, asserting that he had already provided evidence to prove this.

Jaleel stated that development projects have stalled under the current administration. He noted that while numerous initiatives were launched to coincide with the local council elections, the work is not progressing at a pace that yields tangible results. He further criticized the government, asserting that despite the lack of actual progress, projects are being inaugurated merely as symbolic gestures for electoral gain.

Jaleel further noted that although Nilandhoo was once home to a close-knit community, the introduction of the multi-party system under democracy has led to significant social fragmentation within the island.
