Mohamed Shahid, the former President of the Meedhoo Island Council, has expressed concern over the prolonged suspension of construction work on the new police station in Dhaalu Atoll Meedhoo.
In an interview with RaajjeTV, Shahid stated that the Meedhoo Police Station project faced significant complications during the previous council's term due to disputes over land allocation. He further noted that the government had attempted to frame the council for the slow progress, alleging that development projects were stalled because the council was withholding land.
However, Shahid noted that even after land was allocated for the project, progress has remained unsatisfactory. He pointed out that work has stalled after only laying the foundation and erecting several pillars, adding that the project has now been officially handed over to MTCC.
Furthermore, Shahid stated that although approximately 20 Bangladeshi laborers and several Maldivians are stationed at the site, residents have observed no physical progress on the project.
During the local council election period, they initiated projects across every possible area of this island where they could exert influence. However, once the elections concluded, the work came to a standstill. We, the residents, remain in the dark as to whether those projects were ever completed or simply abandoned.Mohamed Shahid
Regarding the duration for which the project has been stalled, Shahid stated that the work originally commenced to coincide with the council elections. He further noted that various projects initiated across different areas ahead of the elections came to a standstill once the polls concluded.
