Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has significantly failed in its responsibility to manage Hulhumale'.
During a meeting with residents of Hulhumale' Phase 2, Azim stated that although Hulhumale' is a district of the Greater Male' Region, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is responsible for the current state of administrative confusion by failing to hand over the management of the suburb to the Male' City Council.
Azim stated that HDC is failing to properly maintain the flats and the road infrastructure.
Today, it is common knowledge that waste management in these flats has failed. Everyone is aware that when an elevator breaks down in these buildings, it remains unrepaired. The deteriorating state of the streets and infrastructure is plain for all to see. It is evident to everyone how these public spaces have become neglected, cluttered with accumulating waste and filth.Adam Azim
Azim emphasized that the state must be governed in accordance with the Constitution, noting that the law clearly defines the boundaries of Male' City. He further stated that despite President Muizzu’s pledge to hand over the jurisdiction of Hulhumale' to the Male' City Council, the transfer has yet to take place.
Azim stated that under an MDP administration, all areas within the Greater Male' Region would be brought under the jurisdiction of the Male' City Council, as mandated by the Constitution.
