Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged that a future MDP administration will restore housing units to their rightful recipients and honor the original agreements for flats issued during his term that have since been revoked by the current government.
He made these remarks during an exclusive interview with RaajjeTV, following a meeting with residents living in the Hulhumale' flats.
Former President Solih stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has revoked flats from approximately 300 individuals who had already received award letters and signed formal agreements during the previous MDP government. Noting that he has been receiving numerous concerns and inquiries from affected citizens, Solih emphasized his belief that the government must honor legally binding agreements made by the state.
President Solih has provided assurances that if the current administration fails to honor the existing agreements, a future MDP government will ensure that the flats are handed over to their rightful recipients.
Furthermore, he stated that information has been received suggesting the current administration is withholding approximately 160 housing units. He added that these flats are reportedly being allocated discreetly to specific individuals favored by the government.
Solih stated that during his meetings with residents of Hulhumale' flats, he has received numerous complaints regarding the difficulties imposed by the current administration concerning rent and fines. He noted that while residents are satisfied with the quality of the housing units, the government's policies have caused them significant hardship.
Solih further stated that an MDP administration would resolve the difficulties faced by the public and rectify matters in accordance with the agreements made by the previous government. During the meeting, residents shared their concerns and frustrations with President Solih regarding the current administration's conduct.
