The Maldives Police Service has revealed that among the government offices affected by the recent major fire in Male', only the building housing the Ministry of Environment was covered by insurance. The blaze impacted three government ministries and several administrative offices of the Male' City Council.
The fire broke out at the 'Pink Building' and 'Green Building' in Male'. The blaze caused extensive and irreparable damage to three government ministries and the Male' City Council offices housed within these premises.
According to the police, the incident resulted in the total destruction of office furniture, electronic equipment, and a significant number of important documents.
During the press conference, police further highlighted that many of the buildings housing key government agencies were not insured. Consequently, the full extent of the financial losses incurred has yet to be determined.
Police stated that insurance coverage was only in place for the building that previously housed the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
During the press conference, police confirmed that they, along with relevant authorities, are continuing to investigate the incident.
