The white alert issued across the entire Maldives has been extended following forecasts of worsening weather conditions.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has extended a nationwide white alert from 14:00 to 20:00 this Sunday. The initial white alert issued for the entire country was previously set to expire at 14:00 on Sunday afternoon.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecasted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, with wind speeds expected to gust up to 40 mph. The national weather office has also urged the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant regarding the prevailing weather conditions.
Several islands across the country are reporting damages as the current spell of severe weather continues. Addu City has been particularly affected by heavy rainfall, prompting the Addu City Council to urge residents to avoid using the Link Road unless for essential travel.
