Police Asked to Investigate MP Saudulla Hilmy Over Sharing Minors’ Personal Information

The Thinadhoo council has requested a police investigation into the leak of personal information belonging to minors under the age of 18. The data was included in a list shared on social media by North Thinadhoo MP Saudulla Hilmy, which identified individuals allegedly not registered as residents of the city.

In a letter addressed to Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed on Wednesday, Mayor Saud Ali stated that a list shared on Facebook by North Thinadhoo MP Saudulla Hilmy disclosed the personal information of minors under the age of 18. Mayor Saud further noted that the list in question had been shared by the Local Government Authority (LGA).

Mayor Saud emphasized that the personal information of minors can only be disclosed under a court order, asserting that the Local Government Authority (LGA) has committed a legal offense. The Mayor has requested the police to conduct a criminal investigation into the matter to determine how board member Saudullah Hilmy obtained the list and to identify those responsible for releasing the information.

Highlighting that this matter constitutes a violation of the Constitution of the Maldives, Mayor Saud has requested the police to conduct a criminal investigation and pursue charges against the negligent administrative staff, officials, and Member Saudullah.

The Prosecutor General's Office has filed two charges against the Mayor of Thinadhoo, Saud, over allegations of submitting falsified population data to state authorities.

A constitutional case has previously been filed with the High Court seeking to revoke Thinadhoo’s city status, alleging that the designation was achieved through the manipulation of population data. Furthermore, Member of Parliament Saudulla Hilmy has submitted the matter to the People’s Majlis for investigation, asserting that granting city status to Thinadhoo was a violation of the Decentralization Act.
