A serious road accident has occurred in Fuvahmulah City involving a driver who was operating a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 18:22.
Police reported that the accident occurred in Fuvahmulah when a car struck a motorcycle before colliding with another oncoming car and ultimately crashing into a palm tree.
The woman operating the motorcycle and an eight-year-old girl who was riding pillion are currently receiving treatment at Fuvahmulah Hospital following the accident. Hospital authorities have informed the police that neither individual sustained serious injuries.
Police have taken a 35-year-old Maldivian man into custody in connection with the incident, alleging that the driver was under the influence at the time. Authorities further stated that the suspect had obtained the vehicle after assaulting the owner and threatening to destroy the car.
The police are conducting a further investigation into the matter.
