Public concern is mounting as reports emerge of similar tactics at other state-owned enterprises, such as Fenaka, where staff are allegedly being intimidated into party membership under threat of dismissal. These actions are widely condemned as a violation of employee rights and a blatant exercise of undue political influence within the civil service.

It was revealed during RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program on Thursday that STELCO’s Human Resources Department has been contacting employees, instructing them to join the People’s National Congress (PNC) and submit screenshots as proof of their membership.
This serves as clear evidence that employees are being forcibly registered as members of the PNC.
In this program, RaajjeTV first contacted the utility company STELCO by posing as an ordinary employee. Upon reaching the Human Resources department, the RaajjeTV representative inquired about the specific phone number to which they should send a screenshot as proof of joining the People's National Congress (PNC).
In response, STELCO’s HR department instructed the employee to send a screenshot to a provided link. Specifically, HR directed the employee to submit a screenshot of the Elections Commission website confirming their party registration once the enrollment process was complete.
RaajjeTV placed the call under the name of Amir Saleem, the station's Head of Programs and host of the morning show 'Fashaairu'. However, upon answering the call, the STELCO Human Resources department immediately hung up as soon as the caller's affiliation was disclosed.

The fact that STELCO’s HR department abruptly ended the call during inquiries further confirms that employees are being forcibly registered as members of the PNC. This serves as clear evidence that the company’s HR department has failed to protect the rights of its staff, instead infringing upon their fundamental professional freedoms.
In addition to STELCO, a significant number of employees at Fenaka offices across various islands are expressing concern over being pressured to join the PNC. Staff members affiliated with the MDP, as well as those with no political affiliation, report being told that signing with the ruling party is the only way to ensure their job security.
Concerns are mounting over the dismissal of numerous employees from Fenaka and STELCO branches across the islands without prior notice, under the government's initiative to "right-size" state-owned enterprises. Protests have broken out in Sh. Foakaidhoo, with demonstrators expressing their concern and demanding that the dismissed employees be reinstated to their positions.
